During the development of the architectural design, great care was taken by Tim Flynn Architects to incorporate finishes, fixtures and finishes that were both colourful, innovative, playful and practical.
Tim Flynn Architects was involved in the selection of specifications and planning of all areas within the facility, in order to create a state-of-the-art academic building. A world-wide search for appropriate furniture suppliers was also carried out.
Within the classrooms, a purpose-made flexible desk system allows for each classroom to be configured in many different ways. Short-throw interactive projectors can be linked with any other classroom within the building, as well as linking externally to other schools, if need be.
Careful use of colour to provide a vibrant and fresh interior has also been used to define areas and levels within the building helping with way-finding and context. Wherever possible, efficient and sustainable materials have been used with a priority given to materials that supply a life-time guarantee.
Rubber flooring is an environmentally sustainable option and this has been used throughout the building softening the large classroom and atrium footprints. Mottled light patterns from the concertina glazed glass ceiling throw relief onto the atrium’s colourful shattered glass floor design which adds vibrancy to the space as a whole.
