Highways England, the new government-owned company has relocated its corporate centre from Dorking to Guildford. Tim Flynn Architects worked with Highways England to deliver an interior design scheme and workplace strategy that supports a high performance organisation.
The Transport Secretary of State officially opened the new headquarters on 1st April 2015.
The project, since its inception has sought to engage with the employees to facilitate change and to create a dynamic working environment with multiple settings supporting a variety of working styles. The architectural design process was developed as part of a workplace change management programme where staff were engaged across all levels of the organisation and participated in interviews, workshops and think tanks. Throughout the engagement processTim Flynn Architects worked in collaboration with Kate McLaren Design.
The interior design concept flows from the colour wheel thus creating a changing environment through colour and texture as you move around the office floors. The space is open plan with a variety of collaboration spaces and retreats / reflection ‘pods’ for concentrated work.
Highways England completed their move into the new offices in April 2015 and are delighted with their new home.
