Boarding Houses – Phase 2
- Location Dilijan, Armenia
- Services Architecture, Interior Design, FF&E
- Area 150,000 sqft
- Completion 2017
This project is a part of the UWC Dilijan College Campus, situated on 88 hectares of land, located within the National Park of Dilijan. UWC Dilijan College is the first project in Armenia to receive a BREEAM certification.
Tim Flynn Architects is developing the designs for three further boarding houses to the east of the site. Each boarding house will accommodate approximately 160 students with either four or two bedroom units plus common rooms for leisure and downtime.
Although slightly more contemporary in feel than the original boarding houses due to the topography on which they are situated, the aim is still to retain the character of Dilijan by utilising similar materials and craft/construction techniques.
The apple and pear orchard is to be extended and restored and incorporates the three boarding houses situated in the lush private gardens backing onto the shared staff accommodation. The courtyard will provide a private area for both staff and students.
Hard and soft landscaping designed in conjunction with Glasser & Dagenbach landscape architects in Germany provide seating and paving. All paths include variety of herbs, mosses and grasses to create a sensory experience of walking amidst nature.
