Construction of a new church in Dilijan announced

The ground-blessing of a new church in Dilijan took place today followed by the announcement of the construction. Tim Flynn Architects office in Yerevan will be producing construction documentation scheduled to start in April 2016.

The church is being constructed with the joint efforts of Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, Dilijan Mayor’s Office and Initiatives for Development of Armenia (IDeA) Foundation. The project benefactors are philanthropists Ruben Vardanyan, Gagik Adibekyan as well as Maxim Atayants, the church architect from St. Petersbourg and Armen Karapetyan.

The IDeA Foundation implements various development projects in Dilijan, and the church building project is one of them.  The new church will be built on the right bank of the river Aghstev, near the area of World War II memorial complex.  The church will be perched on 4.5 meters – high pedestal which will house areas for public use, overlooking the riverside street through an arcade hall. The total area of the new church in Dilijan is 550 square meters.

“We are sure that the church will become spiritual center of the residents of Dilijan”, said head of IDeA Foundation Edgar Manukyan.
