The ceremony was attended by Nagorno-Karabakh President Bako Sahakyan, National Assembly Speaker Ashot Gulyan, Prime Minister Ara Harutyunyan and IDeA Foundation cofounder Ruben Vardanyan.

The project is aimed at establishing the new opportunities for economic development that will open up for the region of Askeran after the creation of a tourism, eco agriculture and education complex.

IDeA Foundation Cofounder Ruben Vardanyan said at the ceremony:

“We have had long discussions with the government of Artsakh [the Armenian name of Nagorno Karabakh] and residents of the republic,” he said. “The program should not become just a foreign project that implies that people will visit the country and leave. The program should integrate in Artsakh eco system. The project is based on the idea that it is possible to preserve the past and traditions and at the same time look forward ensuring development to the economy and education. It was not easy to find this balance.”

It’s estimated that £20 million will be invested in the implementation of the project.
