Tatev Cableway & Restaurant
- Location Tatev and Halidzor, Armenia
- Services Architecture, Interior Design, FF&E
- Completion 2010
The villages of Tatev and Halidzor are located in south-eastern Armenia. This region is renowned throughout the country for its spectacular scenery and the ancient Tatev monastery. As part of a larger Armenian private and public partnership venture, a new masterplan aims to regenerate this undiscovered area to enable and attract tourism as well as to build and enhance the local economy.
Tim Flynn Architects’ role in this philanthropic venture has been to assist with the design and accommodation of the world’s longest aerial cableway terminal – known as the Wings of Tatev. Opened in 2010, the cable car covers the distance between the villages Halidzor and Tatev and travels up to 6km in 12 minutes, carrying 25 passengers at a time to the medieval Tatev monastery.
A contemporary restaurant sitting on the edge of the gorge has also been designed by Tim Flynn Architects.
